More details surrounding Chris Cornell‘s untimely death continue to come in.
News of the Soundgarden artist’s suicide has come as a huge surprise to many including his family, so what exactly happened following the 52-year-old’s concert in Detroit on Wednesday night?
According to a police report obtained by The Detroit News, the rock star returned to his hotel room at the MGM Grand Hotel after his show ended around 11:30 p.m. He was escorted by his bodyguard, Martin Kirsten, who helped him fix a computer problem and gave Cornell two Ativan pills, “which victim takes for anxiety.”
Shortly after, Chris spoke with his wife Vicky on the phone, during which conversation he sounded “groggy” and abruptly ended the call saying, “I’m just tired.”
At 12:15 a.m., Vicky called Martin to have him check on her husband “to see if he is all right because he did not sound like he is okay,” according to the report.
Despite having a key, Martin was unable to gain entry into the room because the door had been latched, and the hotel wouldn’t give him access. From there, Martin kicked down the door only to find the door to the bedroom suite was also latched.
Martin also kicked down the bedroom door and “found victim laying on the bathroom floor” with blood running from his mouth.
MGM medic Dawn Jones arrived to the scene just before 1 a.m. and began “CPR on (Cornell, who) was not breathing.”
Wow. So heartbreaking.
Chris’ family and loved ones continue to be in our thoughts.
